Living the Good Life in Rome

As previously mentioned, I will be heading for Rome in a couple of weeks.  I'm not sure how this happened, but we are staying in a place that is quite mind boggling for this humble layperson.  Here's a hint:
And here's another hint:
I'm almost afraid to say too much, for fear that someone over there will be looking at this and going, "Wait a minute, how did she get in here?  This is a mistake!"  Not that I think anyone at the Vatican is reading this blog, but, hey, you never know.

So, here it is... the actual hotel where we will be staying inside the Vatican:
It may not look like much, but it is inside the walls of Vatican City (!!).  It's the Domus Sanctae Marthae and it was constructed by Pope John Paul II back in the late 1990's so that the cardinal-electors would have a place to stay while at the Vatican for a papal conclave.  Evidently, at previous conclaves the cardinals would have to set up cots near the Sistine Chapel and live in crude quarters until the new pope was elected.  It's pretty exciting to think that we'll be staying in rooms that house the princes of the Church for such an extraordinary function.  I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and share them here at the Academy upon my return.

Just so you don't get the wrong idea about the accommodations, here is a picture of one of the rooms:

Monastically simple!
